Food is held in the hand and eaten with the left mouse button (also possible at full health, without effect). There is no hunger, thirst, sleep or temperature – food only heals. All three foods are neither sinkable nor automatable; a tamed Lizard Doggo delivers Beryl Nuts (6 per find). The Explorer and the Chainsaw destroy food plants permanently.
Food and healing plants
| Item | Heals | Yield per plant | Regrows | Where | On the map (community map, unverified) | MAM (Nutrients) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beryl Nut | 5 HP (½ segment) | 5 nuts per bush | yes, 3 in-game days after harvest (not if the bush is felled or driven over) | everywhere, the most common food | ≈ 1 525 bushes | Scanner research: 5 Beryl Nut |
| Paleberry | 10 HP (1 segment) | 1–3 berries per plant | yes, 3 in-game days | grass and forest biomes, rarer than nuts | ≈ 2 164 plants | 2 Paleberry; tames Lizard Doggos |
| Bacon Agaric | 20 HP (2 segments) | 1 | no (no parent plant object) | caves, shaded areas; rarer than berries | ≈ 1 615 | 1 Bacon Agaric |
| Medicinal Inhaler | 100 HP (full) | – | – | crafted from food, Mycelia or Alien Protein | – | – |
Medicinal Inhaler recipes (Equipment Workshop, 1 each): Protein Inhaler (1 Alien Protein + 10 Beryl Nut), Vitamin Inhaler (10 Mycelia + 5 Paleberry), Therapeutic Inhaler (15 Mycelia + 1 Alien Protein + 1 Bacon Agaric), Nutritional Inhaler (1 Bacon Agaric + 2 Paleberry + 5 Beryl Nut). The AWESOME Shop sells a Health Pack (5 Inhalers) for 1 Coupon.
Biomass plants
| Item | Energy (MJ) | Source | Yield (size-dependent) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 | bushes, trees (hold E and walk; the Chainsaw collects automatically) | bushes 1–12, trees with Chainsaw 10–85 | |
| 100 | trees (Chainsaw), small wood plants by hand | 0–10 per plant | |
| 20 | small mushrooms in caves (hand), large mushrooms (Chainsaw), mushrooms on fallen trees, corals | 1–4 (hand), 14–15 (large mushrooms), Round Blue Cap Mushroom 12–15 (large) / ≈ 8 (medium) | |
| Flower Petals | 100 | removed (until Update 8; only for Color Cartridges) | – |
| Vines | – | removed (burner fuel only, never Biomass) | – |
- Flora does not regrow and cannot be planted; the gigantic trees are indestructible. Trees with wood have hitboxes (placing with Ctrl nudges small trees upward); bushes and flowers do not.
- Chainsaw: fells all flora within 5 m of the target, burns 1 Solid Biofuel per 6 s (75 MW); a tree always yields more than 1 Solid Biofuel costs. Nobelisks destroy most bushes.
- Some plants and rocks yield “No item in foliage” (oil blisters in the Southern Forest, rocks in the Dune Desert and caves).
- Biomass chain: Leaves / Wood / Mycelia / Alien Protein → Biomass (Constructor) → Solid Biofuel (Constructor, Tier 2) → Liquid Biofuel (Refinery). Biomass only matters for Biomass Burners at the start.
Spore Flower
A stationary, gas-producing plant creature (736 on the map, groups of up to 15) around collectibles; only removable with explosives – see Spore Flower and Hazards.
